Oh my goodness! Blogging is so overwhelming.
Writing posts, getting traffic, trying to make money. Can someone normal like me just give me some hope?
Is there anyone out there that has a small blog but makes a decent amount of money?
If that’s you, then you’re going to love this post!
Here is a mom blogger with a small blog who makes bank with her blog using the Amazon affiliate program!
I am so happy to feature my first ever guest post by Carolina from MamaInstincts.com. She is a blogger and mom just like many of you. And she makes over $1,000 per month with her blog. And the best part is she did this even when her page views were under 10,000! That is truly amazing!
She shared her tips with me in a Facebook group and I begged her to allow me to post it. I will be implementing her tips and I hope you do too! Read on to find out how you can make money passively through affiliates.
hey there i’m Suzi from Start a Mom Blog
and I have this amazing post on my blog
that a ton of people liked and have
benefited from so it’s how to make $1000
with your blog even if it’s very small
and it was an awesome guest post by
Carolina from Mama instincts and she
shared her tips with my readers and I
want to share them here with you and
then you can go back and read the post
on my blog and kind of see her examples
as well so she does an amazing job with
promoting affiliate links on her blog
which at the time when she was making
this type of money it wasn’t even
getting that many page views so please
don’t mind the nursing baby you know we
kind of have to do what we can with the
moments we have to UM to work on the
blog anyway so she shared these tips in
a small mastermind group that we’re in
and I begged her and asked her if I can
post it on my blog because I knew that
my readers would love it and I wrote her
another email and I’m like please please
please can I share these tips and she
said yeah sure so she’s very very sweet
anyway I have a little PDF as well in
the blog post so if you can’t read it
you can download all the tips real quick
put that on your wall and remember to do
these tips as you’re creating blog posts
so you can increase your affiliate
income all right so you can download
that right in the blog post itself so
first of all back up what is affiliate
marketing affiliate marketing is when
you promote somebody else’s product and
if a reader one of your readers goes
through your special affiliate link you
get a commission if they make a purchase
and the whole program that Carolina here
uses is Amazon it’s one of the most
popular affiliate programs for bloggers
to sign up with there’s thousands and
hundreds of thousands of products that
you can recommend and most people have
Amazon account so they’re comfortable
using Amazon and buying through that
platform so she explains how she uses
Amazon’s affiliate program to make over
$1,000 per month with her
super-small blog and at that time she
was only getting about eight to ten
thousand page views so it’s one of the
quickest ways to start with affiliate
marketing and signing up for the Amazon
affiliate program it’s free to sign up
for it and you can become an affiliate
and start promoting their products and
get a kickback so here you can see a
screenshot she was getting eight
thousand page views in that month in
January of 2016 so you can see it’s not
even a high buying month this is right
after the holidays people aren’t even in
that spending type of a mood I mean they
just passed Christmas and Thanksgiving
and so on
so if she can make $1000 on a slow month
just imagine what she did on those
holiday months so here you can see from
January 1st to January 31st
she made over a thousand dollars with
program which is awesome so here’s one
of her tips just says she says use
affiliate links every time you can so
she has a mommy blog and when she like
links to anything if you if she has a
recipe for example and she mentions salt
like the epson salt that she uses in her
her natural recipes for a natural soap
and so on she links to that Epsom salt
and then links their product on Amazon
because some mommies or some readers
might not know what Epsom salt is or
what type of salt she’s recommending so
she’s getting people to Amazon and then
once they’re an Amazon they’re like oh
look at all these shiny objects maybe
I’ll buy this coz the great thing about
Amazon’s program is even if they don’t
end up buying that epson salt they might
buy something else and you still get a
commission as long as they buy something
within that cookie period and the cookie
is 24 hours in Amazon that means how
long do they have after they click on
the link so they click on the link from
your blog for epson salt they go to
Amazon within the next six hours or
before 24 hours up they buy something
and you get a kickback for that so
that’s pretty awesome you just want to
get your reader
to Amazon because then Amazon will do
the rest of the selling her second tip
like I just mentioned Amazon pays you
Commission on anything that the reader
purchases so they go through your blog
they’re like what’s epson salt they get
to Amazon they’re like ah but I remember
I needed buy diapers for my kids and my
husband wants a new computer and all
these kinds of things so they end up
buying a whole bundle of items within
that 24 hour cookie period and then you
get a kickback on everything they
purchase so if they purchase a computer
you get a percentage of that commission
or of that sales price which is awesome
she also mentions to keep it classy so
don’t just link to everything make sure
you link to two things that your readers
would be interested to click through on
then she says don’t just use your blog
you can use social media you can use
different outlets to get people to
Amazon so just make sure that you
disclose properly when you do post these
links on Facebook all right we don’t
want to be getting in trouble because
then Amazon could kick you out of the
program if you’re not disclosing
correctly and hey here’s our little
buddy video all right she’s a great tip
here to balance it out she has posted
our heavily link to Amazon and then some
that aren’t there are just more of mommy
advice and tips where you don’t want
your entire blog to be plastered with
affiliate links but you want to have at
least a couple handful of really really
good posts where you can then promote
those affiliate products and one
fantastic way to do that is through a
gift guide post so especially during the
holiday season make a gift guide of the
best new products or new gifts for
mommies who have multiple kids who are
breastfeeding that’s me I know like
what’s a gift guide for them for
products under $25 so those types of
posts you can heavily link Amazon
affiliate links in
or other affiliate links and then get
people to that affiliate program and get
that Commission back you can also do
gift guides throughout the year you
don’t have to wait for the holidays
they’re just they work really well over
holiday season to say for example you
can keep it like fourth of July what are
the gifts you can give people on 4th of
July or what are the items you need for
your party on 4th of July Easter Easter
gifts they can give your kids st.
Patrick’s Day all kinds of fun things so
any holiday where people are a little
bit in the mood of spending money gift
guides are a great option to do she also
says here know your niche so if you know
that your readers really like she her
readers really like non-toxic kids toys
and items and like very healthy safe for
the environment and baby items so if you
know your audience like side make sure
to write posts about that and then link
to products that will help them if you
know your audience loves cats make sure
that you have a Gift Guide on cats or if
they love yoga then you can recommend
the top-20 yoga mat and what’s actually
you can do as well if you order one or
two of those things that you recommend
like show people do a little video on
youtube or on your blog and show people
how great this mat is this yoga mat or
how much your cat loves whatever you’re
recommending because if people see you
use the item they’re gonna be much more
likely to go ahead and buy it you can
use Amazon native ads you can bulk up on
bounties so in this post she has a
little ad here that goes to Amazon and
if they purchased bounties or if they
sign up for bounties you get a bigger
commission so it’s pretty cool like I
mentioned before recommend the stuff
that you’re passionate about if you
don’t have that enthusiasm for the items
you’re recommending people are gonna see
it and be like oh well she doesn’t
really like it so I’m not really gonna
a lot of times I make purchases off
Amazon and I decide if I’m gonna buy
something or not based on the reviews if
the reviews are stellar and people are
really excited about the item I go ahead
and buy it same thing your blog is a
review of that item you’re recommending
so be excited about it be passionate
about it and show people your enthusiasm
show people how you use it and how it’s
improved your life and they’re gonna
click through and purchase it like she
mentions here time it well use the
holidays to sell stuff from Amazon so
this income that she made wasn’t even
over the holidays which is amazing I
could just imagine how much she did make
over the holidays when she promoted her
Amazon affiliate gift guides and blog
posts and then lastly a fantastic tip
and something you can do right now is go
update your old top posts so if you go
into Google Analytics and you see ok
these are my top 10 posts if you’ve been
blogging for a while and you understand
your blog you know which are your
popular posts go to those posts and add
a couple affiliate links don’t plaster
it but keep it classy but add some
affiliate links because you know those
posts are getting the most traffic most
people are gonna go through them click
into Amazon and then make a purchase so
I hope that really helped you kind of
understand how easy it is to increase
your affiliate income through especially
the Amazon program which is great you
can click through in the description
below to the post and read all these
tips for yourself you can also download
the little freebie and then put that on
your wall and remember to to do these
these tips so that you can increase your
income all right we’re gonna sign off
all right have a good day everybody
What is affiliate marketing?
In the blogging world it’s common to hear other bloggers talking about ways to make income. One of those ways is by using affiliate links. An affiliate link is a link with a tracking code; when a person clicks on that link and buys the product you get a commission on that purchase. Affiliate links are a great way to make passive income (see how much I make with affiliate income per month.)
Quickest Method to Start with Amazon Affiliate Marketing
One of the most popular affiliate programs is Amazon affiliates. It is very easy to sign up and you can start using it on your site right away. I set up my Amazon affiliate account around the same time I launched my blog. I didn’t make money the first year, but as my posts starting gaining views and better spots on google results, my affiliate income started increasing.
Amazon has one perk and is that you get a commission from whatever the person buys within the next 24 hours after clicking on your link, which means that most of your income might not even come from products you recommend but from purchases people decide to make once they’re on Amazon.
During my second year of blogging I started making enough money to pay for our Amazon purchases and by my third year I was making over $1000 a month in affiliate income. Some might reach this goal sooner, but I wasn’t blogging to make a profit, only as a hobby and to be honest, I didn’t know what I was doing at first.
These are my blog views + Amazon earnings for January of this year. My views have grown a lot since then but you can see here that I was making a little over $1000 a month and not even hitting 10 000 page views.
Under 10,000 Page Views to My Blog
Over $1,000 in Amazon Affiliate Comission
Over the course of the last three years I learned a few lessons that I want to share with you so you can maximize your Amazon income.
Use Affiliate Links Every Time You Can
Use affiliate links every time you can and not just for the obvious stuff but for everything you mention that can be found on Amazon. Have a recipe that uses salt? Link to that (see this example). You can link to the actual name of the product or use type: “I like to use this salt” so people actually click on the link to see what it is. I wouldn’t use this method on all links but I do use it especially when I’m listing several items.
As a person that reads blogs I love it when people add affiliate links of the products they’re talking about because I don’t have to search for them. For example, when I’m deciding which crafts I’ll make with my kids it saves me a lot of time to click on the affiliate links of the products so you’re helping out your reader as well as making side income. See here how I link to products in crafts.
Amazon Pays You Commission On Anything The Reader Purchases
Most of the stuff I see sold on the report is not stuff I’ve recommended. What this has taught me is that you want people to click on an Amazon link because you have a high chance that they will buy something within the next 24 hours that will get credited to you. So your goal is for people to click on your links and not necessarily to buy what you’re recommending.

Keep It Classy
Add the links on your blog posts without sounding salesy. I don’t just say buy this or that, I usually write about something useful that happens to mention a product or I write about something I’ve researched about and link the product to Amazon. For example, when it comes to a recipe (which I rarely do) I say “now put the mix in a 9in pan” – 9in pan is a link to Amazon. People probably don’t need one but some might click on the link to see what I use and that might generate some money if they buy something else.
Don’t Just Use Your Blog
Share affiliate links on your social media, with proper disclosure. I have to be honest, I don’t do this daily and this is not the bulk of my income but I know this has been successful for a lot of bloggers.

Balance It Out
I have posts that are heavily linked to Amazon and some that aren’t to keep things balanced out. My heavily linked posts are product guides or stuff I was searching for my kids. Some examples are: Non-toxic high chair, 20 non-toxic teething toys, and Gift for 2-3 year olds. My blog is “green” so a lot of my posts are about non-toxic products since this is what I personally look for.
Basically, my money makers are things I was searching for my own kids that I then summarized my findings and turned them into a post. If you’re googling about something, chances are someone else is too so make a post out of it.
Know Your Niche
These posts are also successful because I know my niche. So make sure you narrow down your focus and know who you’re writing for.

Amazon Native Ads
Use Amazon native ads, especially on posts where you mention products and/or on popular post that don’t sell anything. For example, I have a very popular post complaining about people holding my baby. This post is read by moms of small babies so I added a native add with baby toys in the middle of post. Check it out.
I usually check what are my top 10 posts and make sure they have Amazon links or native ads.
Bulk Up On Bounties
Once a month check the Amazon bounties, some pay $3-5 per sign up. I chose one or two related to my blog and put them on the sidebar or on a blog post, if it fits that post. For example, this pregnancy post has a link to a baby registry bounty at the end of the post because expecting moms will most likely create a registry.
Recommend the Stuff You’re Passionate About
Try to write one good post about an expensive product or a list of expensive products that you recommend and actually use. Make sure it has good SEO and wait about 6 months for it to start making money. This is what started making me money at first. My Non-toxic play mats posts got on the first page of Google results and it started making me affiliate income.
This post is a topic I’m very passionate about so I’ve spent countless hours researching the topic without even thinking I would make money, and it paid off. I haven’t been able to replicate this, so I can’t say if the success it’s because I poured my heart into this post but I think this could be replicated if you’re passionate about something.
Note from Suzi: Take for example this post, it shows the equipment I use to grow my blog or the best exersaucers for babies. And of course I’m passionate about each item because I use it daily! Even on a cloudy day, the ring light makes my skin shine on Facebook Lives!
Time It Well
Use holidays to sell stuff from Amazon. My highest earning holiday is Easter followed by Christmas. I’ve also noticed that my holiday posts make me more money the following year. So even if you don’t make money this year, don’t be disappointed because it will probably make you good income the following year.
Update Your Top Posts
If you started using Amazon affiliates after you started your blog go back to your top 20 posts and try to add affiliate links where they fit. Remember to add them where they naturally fit and don’t sound salesy. If it’s a post getting good traction where affiliate links don’t fit, put Native ads on it.
Those are my tops tips! I really do hope they help you to make more Amazon income and if they do I’d love to hear about it. Leave a comment here or shoot me an email.
